An attorney for Walt Disney Studios told the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit it secured the rights to prized patents related to converting standard movies into 3-D film under a contractual agreement with Digital Domain Media Group, a bankrupt visual effects studio co-founded by James Cameron.

Lisa H. Fenning of Arnold & Porter said Section 16(a) of Disney’s agreement with Digital Domain, or DDMG, to convert the films “G-Force,” “Tron: Legacy” and “Alice in Wonderland” into 3-D included a provision protecting the movie studio from patent infringement if it used the film technology’s work on its other pictures.
