HTC Corp. was rebuffed Tuesday in its bid to escape a lawsuit alleging that the Taiwanese consumer electronics company had infringed on patents for technology built into smartphones and tablets.

The case is one of seven suits Koninklijke Philips N.V. and U.S. Philips Corp. filed late last year against mostly foreign defendants, accusing the companies of direct, induced and contributory infringement of patents for interactive systems that allow users to control apparatuses, displays and content on the devices.
